Which says "Host name and Path Prefix"? Are you troubleshooting with a recent Mac/System because something ain't right here. Lets say people manage to get the program to start and finally access the Preferences from the Mail menu, in Accounts where you say to "click the advanced button edit the incoming port to 993 and tick Use SSL" upon inspecting i get this

I managed a workaround and somehow got my mail functioning through POP by entering my full email address into the Username window i think but things are still unsecured and in this day and age of synchronisation SMTP is a must and also highly recommended by Telstra. Remind me why im paying for this email again?

Nice try with providing a bit more help on the subject but just to clarify the Mail program will not start properly until a functioning email's settings have been put in and only then is it possible to further change settings such as the preferences, it will quit and not even finish loading so to change things in Mails preferences is impossible to begin with unless of course you throw your Telstra email to the kurb and get a free gmail or one of the many other free options these days.

Hopefully you will be able to provide a better answer to this solution for the rest of the community in the near future who may not be as tech savvy but I'm starting to think your tech support line aren't much better either from what I hear and like hell I'm going to pay a yearly subscription for platinum tech support to get a basic solution solved on how to login your email account which I'm sure they haven't solved yet otherwise we the customer wouldn't be on this blind little merry go round right now. I feel this is quite a serious issue and maybe "you" should go talk to tech support and figure this out because your solution to just agree with using an unsecure connection to send our passwords through just isn't good enough and POP apparently isn't recommended by you anyway so I'm feeling like this as a service by Telstra Australia's largest internet provider is an absolute joke to the Mac community.

No its not a problem with antivirus and no all your other suggestions don't work because quite simply its a problem with Telstra. How can you encrypt the connection when there is no option to encrypt. So the big question on everyones mind is, what the hell do you mean edit the SSL and ports. The people reply with this screen which as you can see Mail does not give you an option to edit the SSL or ports. "Have you edited the outgoing server settings to include the SSL and Ports?"

Hey Lindy I feel I have a need to interject on this matter as I am also dealing with this problem on a brand new Mac but also the past few years on my old Mac and have over 20 years of experience using Macs which I feel makes me able to say I'm computer savvy and the biggest problem with this is your negligence to see the basic problem, your staff keep undermining and sending people off to the same old solution that still begs to answer the question that people keep sending screen shots about the insecure connection.

  • Ensure the checkbox is ticked for ‘Outgoing server requires authentication’.
  • Enter your full email address (ending in or Enter your Telstra email account password (case sensitive).
  • Encrypted connection: SSL/TLS on port 465 (recommended) or STARTTLS on port 587.
  • Outgoing server port: 465 (recommended) or 587.
  • IMAP is the recommended setting for Telstra Mail customers is no longer used and you should be using the settings found here:
